“Game of Thrones” Redux

The insanely popular HBO series that has touched the hearts of many including sweet grandmothers whose baby’s spawned weebs is returning on Sunday, April 14, 2019.

Rewatching the most-important episodes of the series before the season 8 premiere is a must. “GoT” writer Bryan Cogman outlines these critical episodes here. The series feels band new after going back and revisiting episodes from the earlier seasons. They hold up so well.

Daenerys Targaryen’s young dragons melting slave masters and sorcerers alike. Theon Greyjoy giving Winterfell a next-level sacking only to be sacked himself. Tyrion Lannister turning the tides of the Battle of the Blackwater with burny boiz. “Game of Thones” has so many great moments it should be a crime punishable by large weeb.

Order pizza. Obtain 12 pack of Bud Light. Get weeded (if you’re into that). Snuggle up to your best friend. Turn on the TV. Then, finally, watch all 21 “Game of Thrones” episodes before the season 8 premiere. Sure, your eyes may leak blood by the end of it all–but a big refresher does that type of thing. Embrace it.

AMC’s “The Terror” Is Money Bags

http://www.amc.com/extras/the-terror-season-1-episodic-photos#/8

“The Terror” is dope. I’m stoked on it. Here’s why:

Synopsis by a Pleb

In 1847, the Royal Navy sets out to find the Northwest Passage to China and India. During their expedition, the ice has other plans and pinches their ships, HMS Erebus and HMS Terror, to all hell. They are F’d. They are many, many, many miles from anywhere. To make matters worse, a mysterious polar bear-like creature is literally chomping sailors’ dome pieces in half. To top it all off, the crew members are getting bad case of food poisoning.

All the characters have interesting flaws. Captain Francis Crozier enjoys getting trashed. Commander James Fitzjames has inadequacy issues. Cornelius Hickey likes pleasuring his other mates. These dudes are a roller coaster ride in the middle of the dang Arctic ice pack.

Why Watch?

It’s a well written and beautifully shot piece of TV. AMC dropped heavy dough. Flashbacks to a time before the expedition add depth to a majority of the characters. Sucking the viewer deeper into the intriguing story line. Honestly, besides HBO mainstays I haven’t been too involved in many basic cable series lately. I promise if you give “The Terror” a chance you will not be disappointed.

Episodes premiere, Mondays at 9pm PST on AMC.

Watch the trailer for a little tantalizer:

What to Look Forward to in 2018

We survived 2017. According to most people, the biggest disappointment of last year was last year. But we are troopers (weebs), lets jump right in to the new year of 2018!

Video Games

“Pokémon RPG” | Release: TBD, 2018 – This entry into the Pokémon franchise is coming exclusively to the Nintendo Switch. If the Switch wasn’t already killing it enough, this game will put the system over the edge.

“Red Dead Redemption 2” | Release: TBD, 2018- Saddle up, nerds. The sequel to Rockstar Games’ western classic will be bucking you in the face this year.

TV

“Mosaic” | Release: Jan. 22, 2018 – Steven Soderbergh’s kooky murder mystery coming to HBO puts an interactive twist on story telling.

“Troy: Fall of a City” | Release: TBD, 2018 – We don’t have any “GoT” this year so we have to improvise with this upcoming Netflix series.

Movies

“Ready Player One” | Release: Mar. 30, 2018 – Honestly, I haven’t read the book. The movie looks whacky–but I’ll likely see it for the video game references.

“Venom” | Release: Oct. 5, 2018 – Tom Hardy’s jump into the super hero world is set to be dark and R-rated! I’m ready for this guy.

Enjoy the new year from LNG! Don’t forget to read books and drink G Fuel.

Who the F–k Still Watches “The Walking Dead”?

Searching around YouTube today, see that “The Walking Dead” season eight teaser is number four on YT’s trending list. This has me thinking, who still watching this darn, long-running AMC series?

Admissions

Firstly, I would like to point out that I have not kept up with the show. If memory serves me correct, I made it through the fifth season, with much effort. I think the “TWD” season 1 has some of the best zombie moments I’ve seen! But, whoa, by the time the fifth season rolled around, it is a mindless soap opera, where the characters were more interested in creating drama between one another than fearing the real enemy, the zombies. So, no, I haven’t seen up to season seven but I’m not sad about it.

Speculation

Who is still watching this show? It’s not made for horror lovers anymore, that’s for sure. The scares were arguably gone by the end of the second season. I feel like “TWD” is for people who have zero interest in the zombie genre. The show has taken a sharp turn that involves winey characters and terrible decisions. Not enough blood and guts, far too many stupid plot points. Plus, the characters are pretty unlikable, sorry…

Anyway, “TWD” season eight teaser is trending after all on YT, so they must be doing something right. Check it out below. Fun fact it’s a throwback to the very first scene from the AMC series.

Is Daenerys Targaryen the Real Villain in “Game of Thrones”?

hbo.com

Daenerys of the House Targaryen, the First of Her Name, The Unburnt, Queen of the Andals, the Rhoynar and the First Men, Queen of Meereen, Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea, Protector of the Realm, Lady Regnant of the Seven Kingdoms, Breaker of Chains, Mother of Dragons AND Possible Destroyer of the  “Game of Throne” Universe!

The hit HBO series is already a couples episodes into its second to last season. That means “GoT” will be coming to an end soon and the show is sure to provide some unexpected twists for fans to freak out over. Imagine this, Daenerys is a villain after all, people would lose their shit! And it doesn’t seem like a long shot.

The evidence is in “Stormborn” episode three, season 7. When folks from the north learn about Daenerys’ arrival in Westeros they are quick to reiterate how her father, Aerys II Targaryen, acted a fool on the throne aka melted everyone with his dragons. They haven’t forgotten that Dany is the direct descended of the Mad King and the apple usually doesn’t fall far from the tree. Foreboding feelings, anyone?

Daenerys agrees to set up a meeting with Jon Snow but only if he bends the knee. She isn’t even on the throne and yet she’s demanding Jon, The King of the North, to immediately pledge his allegiance to her. Seems a little weird to me, like she’s super entitled. Villain behavior, anyone?

Did Daenerys look excited when Tyrion Lannister mentioned her becoming “Queen of the Ashes”? It’s like Dany is aching to burn the realm to the ground even though she actually says she doesn’t want to go that route. I think she’s so close to accomplishing her goal that she doesn’t give an F anymore about how she takes the throne or who dies in the process. BBQ, anyone?

Who knows maybe I’m completely wrong! Daenerys could win the throne, kill all the White Walkers and proceed to live happily ever after. But I doubt it!

Oats Studios Is What I’ve Been Missing on the Internet

I’m hyped over this.

Neill Blomkamp, the director who brought us “District 9” and other amazingly odd movies, is heading up Oats Studios which has already produced three strange short films with more to come. The indie studio releases them for free on YouTube and they are all worthy of a watch because they are so well done.

I am a fan of Neill’s style. The projects he does have a perfect mixture of organic and mechanical elements that I find extremely disturbing (in a good way). There’s nothing like it out there and he’s releasing content for free! I love it. According to their website these short films could become full feature at some point. I’m guessing it would depend on the popularity and buzz the short generates.

Here is one of the latest projects called, “Zygote.” After you watch this go watch the others, “God” and “Rakka.”

“Attack On Titan” Returning in 2018

After watching the first two seasons of “Attack On Titan,” I have to say, I’m hooked. Thankfully, fans won’t have to wait long before “Mikasa” is screamed once again over their TV speakers. “AoT” season 3 will be airing next year! Get a look at the 15 second teaser:
