“Overwatch” League Live in L.A. Will Be Cool

The first city-based “Overwatch” league is sure to be a good time. For folks living in Los Angeles, it’s a convenient opportunity to see some live, pro gaming in your back yard!

Blizzard Arena, where all the esports fun will go down, is located between Warner Bros. Studios and Walt Disney Studios in the heart of Burbank. The first game of the season kicks off Jan. 10, 2018 and will run through Feb. 10!

According to the official website, tickets go for $20. Beware, this could be the new trendy event, so don’t be surprised if getting tickets is a bit tricky, especially for the weekend games!

Hopefully, I will see you there!

Streaming Is Still Hard AF

Despite being the new American dream, streaming is hard.

Git Gud

Being a streamer means that you not only have to perform with the best of your gaming abilities but also engage your viewers. It’s trickier than it seems. Focusing on viewer engagement can bring down game play. Great streamers have no problem dumpstering opponents and keeping an eye on chat. Not easy!

Tech

Then, technical issues can plague any streamer. From the capture card to computer and microphone, there is always something that can be optimized for a cleaner experience for the viwers. Keeping track of all of these potential problems is key!

My Twitch career is in its infancy stage but I’m learning a lot! Will it ever get out of infancy stage? Probably not. Good luck on your streaming adventure.

What to Look Forward to in 2018

We survived 2017. According to most people, the biggest disappointment of last year was last year. But we are troopers (weebs), lets jump right in to the new year of 2018!

Video Games

“Pokémon RPG” | Release: TBD, 2018 – This entry into the Pokémon franchise is coming exclusively to the Nintendo Switch. If the Switch wasn’t already killing it enough, this game will put the system over the edge.

“Red Dead Redemption 2” | Release: TBD, 2018- Saddle up, nerds. The sequel to Rockstar Games’ western classic will be bucking you in the face this year.

TV

“Mosaic” | Release: Jan. 22, 2018 – Steven Soderbergh’s kooky murder mystery coming to HBO puts an interactive twist on story telling.

“Troy: Fall of a City” | Release: TBD, 2018 – We don’t have any “GoT” this year so we have to improvise with this upcoming Netflix series.

Movies

“Ready Player One” | Release: Mar. 30, 2018 – Honestly, I haven’t read the book. The movie looks whacky–but I’ll likely see it for the video game references.

“Venom” | Release: Oct. 5, 2018 – Tom Hardy’s jump into the super hero world is set to be dark and R-rated! I’m ready for this guy.

Enjoy the new year from LNG! Don’t forget to read books and drink G Fuel.

Awesome Games Done Quick 2018 Is Around the Corner

Just a quick reminder. Awesome Games Done Quick 2018 will commence Jan. 7th – Jan. 14th. If my math is correct that is 5 days from now. The whole affair will be broadcast on Twitch.

You don’t want to miss this 168-hour, nonstop marathon of incredible gaming. To top it off, the proceeds from the event go to Doctors Without Borders and the Prevent Cancer Foundation.

Check out some highlights from Summer Games Done Quick 2017:

Video Games vs. Sleep: The Dilemma

I want to play some vidya but it’s late into the night and I have work in the morning. What do I do?

I play video games, duh–but it comes with the steep cost of being tired as heck. I could G Fuel  into a sleepless oblivion but it isn’t a good look. Then, there are people who don’t require 6-8 hours of sleep every night without chemicals to keep them going. A depressing thought because I want to be one of those weebs and bad. Leonardo da Vinci, Nikola Tesla and more historical figures didn’t need to hit the sack for very long! Those famous individuals were geniuses and not spending their time in front of the TV but they will be categorized as historical weebs from now on.

I have a romantic vision of being able to stay up till 3:30am PST, wake up at 6:30am PST and go about my everyday life like I didn’t only just sleep for 3 hours. It’s pure-bred pleb talk though. LNG needs to sleep at least 6 hours or else it’s curtains.

Video games require copious amounts of time. Something I don’t have an insane amount of–unless I stop sleeping… Deteriorating my body with sleep deprivation for them is cool. I’ll just drink some Coke or something.

What Is the Point of Twitch Chat?

After watching a ton of Twitch, I can safely say, the purpose of Twitch chat is unclear to me.

LIRIK, Summit1g and other famous streamers’ chats go off at the most insane rate due to the high number of viewers. Even in subscriber mode, which is when the viewer pays a monthly fee to the streamer to have the ability to chat, it is still going ballistic.

Are we supposed to have a conversation with either the streamer or another viewer in this storm of text? Should I be expecting a back-and-forth with someone? I haven’t that’s for sure! I think it may need some reworking.

Let me know if I’m being a princess about this–but to me, Twitch chat leaves plenty to be desired.

Twitch Streamers to Watch in 2018

New year, new you. Jump on Twitch and follow these channels to satisfy your voyeuristic video game addiction. Hopefully this serves as a way to broaden everyone’s, including my own,  horizon on how many fun streamers there are out there.

PostMalone

Dude’s a rapper and a goon–but entertaining as heck. PostMalone streams “COD: WWII” and “PUBG.” Plus, he’s friends with Ethan of h3h3 fame.

Beaulo

A big, up-and-coming “Rainbow Six Siege” player. Beaulo’s Twitch numbers are growing and you should be a part of them.

Threedogg

This guy will play through a variety of games. I found out about dogg through the OuterHeaven channel which he and a couple of other streamers play the “MGS” series. Threedogg’s analytical outlook on games is top notch.

Grimmmz

This guy has been streaming since 2009 and is pretty popular. I’ve only just discovered him and I’m a fan. Check him out!

dakotaz

Another great player and streamer. Like LIRIK he doesn’t use a cam. Dakotaz sounds like he always has a frog in his throat but that adds to his charm. I’ve watched this guys absolutely shred “Fortnite.”

Happy holidays and new year from LNG. Check out some different streamers, be merry, etc.

5 Nostalgic Websites for Christmas

I’m taking a G Fuel-fueled trip down memory lane. The websites I’m about to list molded me into the man I am today! Now, I’m delivering them to you for Christmas. Enjoy!

1.

eBaum’s World: The content of the site is mostly collections of funny images, memes, viral videos, and articles on Internet culture and gaming. Some of my earliest memories of watching videos on the Internet came from this weirdly named site.

2.

Newgrounds: A way for content creator to put their art, flash games and more on display. I have played so many games on this one!

3.

Break.com: (formerly Big-boys.com) Break is an entertainment and humor website founded in 1998 that features comedy videos, flash games, and pictures among other material. Congers up memories of crowding around my family comp with my long-time neighbor Kevin Folsom.

4.

Addicting Games: AddictingGames launches more than a dozen new games every week. With an impressive backlog of fun games. I put time into this site. One game in particular really captured my attention was about feeding fish and collecting treasure. Wish I could remember the name of that gem.

5.

Planet Half-Life: At one point in my young life I was obsessed with looking at video game screen shots. Planet Half-Life featured amazing images from Counter Strike” and “Half-Life.” I browsed this guy plenty. However, currently the site looks pretty dead.

Merry Christmas everyone and may God protect us from ISP controlled Internet. Visit these classic websites before it is too late!

DrDisRespect’s Emotional Cheating Admission Live on Twitch Rocked Me

Something very bizarre is in the air. FCC repeals the Net Neutrality laws, Disney buys most of 21st Century Fox and one of my favorite Twitch streamers makes a stunning infidelity confession live on Twitch.

DrDisRespect aka Guy Beahm just made me depressed like into the depths. The famous streamer, known for his super-cocky shtick, makes a teary-eyed admission to all of his fans of being “unfaithful” to his wife. He goes on to say he will take a hiatus from streaming to patch thing up with his family. I’m one of those fans and I’m shocked. I’ve been watching DrDisRespect for about a year now and I can’t recall him ever breaking character. So, his super candid cheating confession rattled me to the core. I wish him and his family well in these tough times.

New “PUBG” Map Is Dull as Hell

“PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds” desert map misses the mark.

Watching DrDisRespect play Miramar (name of new “PUBG” map) for a couple of hours made me quickly realize–this is boring AF. The new map looks like a gigantic, beige pit of depression. It’s huge! Seriously, Mr. DisRespect who is known for violence, speed and momentum can hardly find other players. A majority of the time he is running from point A to B with very little in between. The OG map is still too large in my book. Why would they go bigger???

It’s legit not the same game with this map’s release. I have theories though. Bluehole, the developer behind “PUBG,” wants the map to be streamer friendly. And I’ve praised the game for being a perfect game to stream. But too much PvP won’t allow the streamer to interact with their viewers. So what do the devs do? Make a huge map so the streamer can talk to their viewers for huge lengths of time. If this is true, it’s a tragic misstep because the map goes at a snail’s pace. Also, Miramar is expansive enough to make me wonder if “PUBG” will support 200 players soon. We’ll see!

Let me know what you guys think! Leave a comment.
